INTRODUCTION:

First Question: What In Our World - Is An Earth Ball ?

This BOOK Uses the 12 ft. Earth Ball Model Throughout this BOOK for many reasons that will be

discussed in depth, as you read on and we All move from an oil dependent (Horrendous) lifestyle to a

wind, solar, tidal, and other Earth friendly power sources.

All of the systems that are brought forth in this book and are used on a Earth Ball Home or

Greenhouse can be easily adapted to conventional homes or business buildings for continuous use

or in emergency situations.

This includes the very simple and amazing Saw Dust, Peat Moss, grass cuttings, Compost Toilet. that

works very, very, well, with no smell. (See, Index, Compost Toilet)

As the say in Vermont, North America, Earth, It's a Piss-A.

The Earth Ball, or something similar to evolve, and the Lifestyle that will innately evolves from it... Is

the Earths next exciting, planet changing, generation of affordable housing for all Earths Citizens.

It facilitates an immediate lifestyle change which allows time and money to be directed to improving

the residents quality of life issues in the most sustainable manner.

I'm sure We are destined and it is required that we (get off our preverbal, collective butts and give

back to the next seven generations. I'm sure it is our collective duty to do so, yup... and as we travel

NOTE: We have found that two 12 ft. Earth Balls connected together are better than one larger E.B. for

many reasons. One reason is E.Bs. can also be grouped together as a neighborhood or commercial

setting and/or within a village, neighborhood or city setting.

One E.B. can accommodate at least one (Human Being) / (Earth Citizen) (E.C.) to a small family of

E.Cs. To add more space simply build an additional 12 ft. Earth Balls. The Earth Balls can then be

connected together as needed, by another common E.B. central room, a dock/raft on water, a porch,

or other kinds of connecting walk ways or bridge for on land or on water use.

The Earth Ball Foundation is simply the bottom of the E.B., the Bottom Pentagon, sitting directly on

the Earth. NO HOLE IN the GROUND is NEEDED. Why ?... The Bottom third of the E.B. is Very Strong

and Waterproofed up to the third Row of Hexagons. More about the Pentagons and Hexagons later

on.

The E.B. fiber glassed, waterproofed, foundation adds Another Plus to your E.B., it makes your E.B.

critter and insect proof for on land use. There is no need for a hole in the ground, foundation. And,

The Earth Ball will Float on Water Intentionally or in emergency situations such as Floods.

Not having a long-established, attached to the Earth, "hole in the ground" foundation during an Earth

Quake gives Your E.B. a chance to bounce around, it will not collapse, crumble, fall down on top of

you. Earth Balls are a safe place to be during an Earth Quake.

One or the fascinating things about the Earth Ball Home and/or Green House is that it is an Affordable,

Permanent Housing Solution in terms of its ability to house efficiently. The E.B. can sleep four with

fold down cots, collects water using a simple harvesting rain system, uses solar LTD lighting, a

compost toilet for healthy sanitation, basic cooking facilities, and a hydroponic garden set up to

begin your own food production.

There are many BASIC reasons the E.B. is a sphere, not a dome, as it allows for ready storage under

How To Create Your Earth Ball Home and/or Green House - Start Up Information.

NOTE: The below reads like it's very technical and difficult to understand, well it was for me until I started to get into it, then it becomes quite easy to understand and to execute the different cuts. If you are having trouble understanding this information, ask for help from your local carpenter or architect.

Basic Overall Information:

1. A Basic Understanding of the TOTAL Earth Ball, the STRUTS, the PANELS, and All the ANGLE Relationships To One Another, IS Critical in the Formation of the Geometry Necessary to Build Your Earth Ball ( E.B. )

2. Visualize ( IMAGINE ) a DOT in the Center (Middle) of A Sphere / Your Earth Ball. (See E.B. Frame With Yellow Center Dot, Image).

2a. All Earth Ball, Angles Are Based on this ONE CENTER Point - Inside the Middle of the Sphere.

3. All E.B. Strut End Cuts (Angles) are 12 Degrees. To understand Your END CUT Angles, Start a Line From the ONE CENTER (Middle) Point inside the E.B. Moving Outward to all the End Cut Angles, All Around Your Sphere.

Basic Struts Information

4. NOTE: You Will Need 90 Struts to Make Up Your Total Earth Ball.

5. Each of the 90 Struts Has (3) Three Angle Cuts on Both Ends of ALL the Struts.

5a. (1) One 12 Degree End Cut and (2) TWO Bevel Cuts on Both Sides of a Strut. Making a Total of, (3) Three Angles Cuts, at BOTH Ends of All Struts.

6. Once Cut Up, All the Struts Are Then Screwed Together Using 3 In. Galvanized, Outdoor Deck Screws.

Basic Pentagon and Hexagon Panels Information.

1. Your Earth Ball is Made Up of a Total of, 32 Pentagon and Hexagon Panels.

2. (12) Twelve will be Pentagon Panels.

3. (20) Twenty will be Hexagon Panels.

4. NOTE: All (12) Pentagons Panels NEVER Abut (connect with) Any Other, Pentagon Panel.

5. NOTE: All Hexagons Panels, Abut (Connect With), Both Pentagons and Hexagon Panels. The Pentagon Hexagon Mix (connections) Per Panel is Every Other Hexagon Strut.

6. Try To SEE ALL 90 Struts, the 32 Pentagon and Hexagon Panels and All the (3) Three Way Angles Connections Points. It Helps to Visualize (See) the Panels and Angles Relationship in Your Minds Eye. See Earth Ball (E.B.) 90 Connected Strut Sphere Image With and without the Center Point.

7. The Total Frame, Made Out of 90 Struts Will Be Weak, (BUT) After Screwing On All 12 Pentagon and 20 Hexagon Panels - Your E.B. Becomes VERY, VERY STRONG.

STRUT Information and Determining the SIZE of Your Earth Ball Home (E.B.) and Some of the Tool Needed to Cut Up the Parts.

1. Struts are Simply the FRAME that Makes Up Your Total Earth Ball Structure (Sphere / Frame).

2. The Diameter of Any Earth Ball, Hexagon (Hex), Pentagon (Pent), Mix Sphere, Is Determined by the Length of All 90 Struts. All the Struts Will Be the Exactly the Same Length.

2a. NOTE: The SIZE of a E.B. Is Thus, The Longer the Struts Length... The Larger Your Earth Ball, Sphere Will Be.

2b. NOTE: This Book Uses the 12 foot, Earth Ball Home Model. (The E.B. is in fact, 11 ft. 7 and 3/4 inch in Diameter). The 12 ft. E.B. Will Always Use a 27 1/2 Inch Strut Length on ALL of the Total 90 Struts Needed.

2c. This Keeps Your E.B. (Off the Ground) Round, Foot-Print (Diameter) Just Under 12 Feet.

3. The Waterproofed Pentagon On the Bottom of Your E.B. Is the Only Part on the 12 foot land model E.B. that Hits the Ground, NOTE: Along with the Five (5) Stabilizing Legs/Floats/Deck. Thus, THE BOTTOM FIBER GLASSED PENTAGON IS THE FOUNDATION, There Is No Need for a Hole In the Ground.

3a. It is the Size of the Pentagon On the Bottom, That Is in Fact, the Foot-Print Information Needed for Standard Community Building Code, Foot Print Size.

4. NOTE: The BASIC, 27 1/2 inch, E.B. Strut Makes the 12 FOOT, EARTH BALL SIZE, THAT IS USED Throughout This - How To Build Your Earth Ball - BOOK.

4a. The 12 Foot Size Take Advantage of Standard 4 X 8 Building Materials / Sheathing, Plywood, Plexiglas or Other Basic 4 X 8 Panel, Coverings or Other Building Materials.

4b. The 12 foot Size Will Let You Move Your Earth Ball Home on Most Highways With Bridges that are 13.6 feet. This Is Enough Clearance to Trailer / Move Your 12 ft. Earth Ball from Place to Place, Over Most Highways, Roads / Paths and Under most Bridges.

4c. Moving Over / Across Water is No-Problem Because the Water Proofed BOTTOM of Your Earth Ball Homes and/or Green Houses WILL FLOAT. This Makes it Easy to Cross Over, or Live on Waters, Both Salt and Fresh, All Around OUR Earth.

4d. Earth Balls Can Be Made Any Size You Want. We have found that (2) Two, 12 foot Earth Balls, Connected or Not Chained Together, Work Far Better Than One Larger E.B. It's Your Choice.

1. STRUTS CONTINUED, THERE ARE ONLY (2 ) TWO KINDS of STRUTS that Make Up the Entire ( 90 Strut ) Earth Ball Frame.

2. The Difference Between the Two Kinds of Struts, Is Only ONE Bevel Cut. All the Bevel Cuts Are On the Same Side of All the Struts, On Both Ends.

Determining the Angles for ( 60 ) Sixty, PENTAGON / HEXAGON - (Pent / Hex) Struts.

Determining the Angles for the PENTAGON / HEXAGON (5) FIVE STRUT per PANEL, CONFIGURATION, MIX with BEVEL CUTS.

1. You Will Need A Total of ( 60 ) Sixty, Pentagon (Pent) / Hexagon (Hex) STRUTS MIX for One 12 ft. Earth Ball Sphere.

2. All Five Struts (27 1/2 Inches Long) that Make Up the (12 Pentagon Panels) Have A Mix of Two Pentagons and Two Hexagons Bevel Cuts, On the Same Side, On Both Ends of Each of the (5) Struts.

2a. In Other Words, The TWO END Bevel Cuts will be ON the SAME SIDE and At BOTH ENDS of Each 2 X 4 Strut.

3. NOTE: All ( 60 ) PENTAGON / HEXAGON STRUTS, Thirty Six (36) Degree, PENTAGON, BEVEL CUTS, FACE to the INSIDE, of ALL 12 PENTAGON PANELS.

4. NOTE: All ( 60 ) PENTAGON / HEXAGON STRUTS, Thirty (30) Degree, HEXAGON BEVEL CUTS, FACE to the INSIDE of ALL 20 HEXAGON PANELS.

5. Put Another Way... All Hexagon Strut Angles Face to the OUTSIDE the PENTAGON in a HEX / PENT Panel.

5a. Put Another Way...Hexagon Bevel Cuts will be ON the SAME SIDE and at BOTH ENDS of All, Pentagon / Hexagon / (Hex / Pent) STRUTS.

6. NOTE: A Pentagon NEVER Abuts, Connects With, Another Pentagon. (NEVER - EVER)

7. NOTE: Pentagons are ALWAYS surrounded by Hexagons. (ALWAYS)

8. Get inexpensive, regular size SUCCOR BALL... Earth Balls are Exactly the Same Shape and Have the Same Basic, Pent Hex Mix, Make-up.

8a. Study the Geometry of the Pentagons and Hexagons that the Soccer Ball is Made Up Off, and ALL the Relationships (Pents) and (Hexes) Have To Each Other, etc.

9. A Soccer Ball In Your HANDS, will help You understand the Angels / Shapes / Struts / Panels, Total Make Up, etc. of Your Earth Ball Home and/or Greenhouse.

3. Both Bevel Angles, On Both Ends of the 30 Struts Needed, ARE ALL 30 DEGREES.

4. Hex / Hex Struts Connect, Hexagon Panels With Another Hexagon Panel. ONLY.

NOTE: 1. Compared the above Hex / Hex Strut - to/with - the Pent / Hex Strut.

NOTE: 2. ( to repeat) The 12 Degree END CUTS (Different from a Strut Bevel Cuts), ARE ALL the SAME on BOTH ENDS of all 90 Struts.

5. Again, Get a regular size SUCCOR BALL, Earth Balls are Exactly The Same, Study the Geometry, the Pentagons and Hexagons that it is made up off, the Relationships etc.

5a. Again, A Soccer Ball In Hand, will help You understand the Angels / Shapes / Struts / Panels, Total Make Up, etc. of Your Earth Ball Home and/or Greenhouse.

NOTE: 1A. It's Now Or Never, time to Paint Brush or Roll on a few Coats of Fiberglass Resin or Other Waterproofing You Choose. Seal Both Sides and Ends of the 2 X 4s, Pentagon and Hexagon Panels.

NOTE: 2A. It's is Best to Fiberglass All Wood Surfaces, Plywood and 2 X 4 Struts at Least TWO Coats before Screwing Pent-Hex and Hex-Hex Panels On to the Struts Frame.

NOTE: 3A. It Is Very Important to Seal ALL EDGES and ENDS of ALL the Hex-Hex and Pent-Hex Panels and All Your 2 X 4. Struts.

Understanding and Fastening Together Your STRUTS (3) Three Way (Joint) Connections.

1. Now that You have All 90 Struts AND most of Your Hexagon and Pentagon Panels Cut Up, You are Ready to Screw Your Earth Ball Frame Together.

2. There are (3) Three Struts Interacting to Create a 3 Way Strut Joint (connection).

3. It is Advised that You (Pre Drill) ALL the Screw Holes At Each End of ALL the Struts Connecting Points.

4. The Screws Used, Should Be, 3 inch # 6 or # 8, Galvanized or Treated, Deck, Outdoor Screws.

5. Two (2) Screws Should Be Used to Connect Each Strut With ALL Other Struts, At Each of the (3) Three Strut Connections, in All Three Directions.

6. NOTE: Connecting Each Strut to Each Other with 2 Screws is NOT very strong.

7. NOTE: Two Screw Connections will be Strong Enough to Hold the Struts Together Until Plywood or other Sheathing is Screwed On to Each Strut that Make Up Each Panel.

8. NOTE: Once the Plywood and/or other kinds of Sheathing are Screwed on Your Struts, Your E.B. Frame, the Whole Structure, then Becomes Very, Very, Strong.

1. NOTE: Again, Your Earth Ball at this point, with all the Struts Screwed Together, is NOT very Strong.

2. NOTE: Again, Your E.B. Will Fall Down With Any kind of Pressure Put To the Framed Sphere. We Know from experience.

3. NOTE: Again, Your Earth Ball Will Be VERY, VERY, STRONG once the Pentagon and Hexagon 3/4 in. Plywood Panels are Screwed On.

4. We Screwed the E.B. Frame Together in the Picture, Simply to Show the Finished 2 X 4 Struts All Connected Together, Thus, Creating Your Basic Earth Ball Frame.

5. Standing Inside this 12 foot Framed E.B. Gives One the Feeling of Space With Many / Layout / Design Options. The E.B. Interior Possibilities Are End-Less. Designing the Interior and Exterior, Decks, Beds, Storage in Wall Panels and Under the Floor, Skylights, Doors, Windows, etc, etc, of Your New Abode and/or GreenHouse Is Fun. Try Out Different Ways/Plans, etc. Send Us Your Ideas.

5a. A Deck On One End or Surrounding Your E.B. Will Add to the Total Living an Storage Space/Area Inside and Outside Your Earth Ball Abode and/or Green House.

6. keep in mind that experience has shown Us that two 12 foot E.Bs. are better than one larger E.B. for many reasons. But Please, Build Your E.B. Any Way You Want.

Sheathing Assembly; PENTAGON PANELS.

1. TWO (2) Pentagon Panels can be cut out of ONE 4 X 8 sheet of Plywood or Other 4 X 8 ft. Sheathing Material.

2. 12 Pentagon Panels Are Needed to Construct Your Entire Earth Ball.

3. Thus, 6 sheets of 3/4 X 4 X 8 Plywood will be needed.

4. To Establish the Layout of 2 Pentagons On One Sheet of 4 X 8 Plywood.

5. Start by Drawing Two Circles, Both With a Radius Of ____GET RADIUS INFO________ 1 ft, 11 3/4 in.

6. This will established the circle by which the Pentagon with its 5 Struts equaling 27 1/2/ in. at their longest point can be laid out and then cut.

7. Make a Mark on the Circle of Each Strut 27 1/2 inches Long, Making Any Small Adjustments to the Struts Within the Circle to Fit the (5) Struts Long Points.

7a. The more Accurate You Lay Out These CIRCLES with/and STRUTS, the Better and Easier the Cut Outs Of each Panel Will Be and the Whole E.B. Will Go / Screw Together Quite Easily.

1. One (1) Hexagon Panels can be Cut Out of One 4 X 8 sheet of Plywood or other Sheathing Material.

2. 20 Hexagon Panels will be needed to construct the entire Earth Ball.

3. Thus, 20 sheets of 3/4 X 4 X 8 Plywood will be needed.

3a. The Thickness of the Plywood Can Be Thinner As You Work Your Way To the Top of Your E.B.

3b. Don't Worry about the Excess Plywood from these Cuts... They Will be Used for Flooring, Shelves Later On, etc.

4. To Establish the Layout of ONE Hexagon on ONE sheet of 4 X 8 plywood.

5. Start by Drawing a Circles, with a Radius of ____GET RADIUS INFO HERE________ in.

6. This Circle Drawn Out On Your Plywood Will Established the Circle in Which the Hexagons with its 6 Struts 27 1/2/ inch at their longest point, Can Be Laid Out and Then Cut Out.

7. See drawing on left. Make Any Small Adjustments to the Circle to Fit the Struts, Exactly As Possible.

7a. The More Accurate You Lay these Circles, With Struts, Out and Then Cut Them Out, the Better and Easier the Whole E.B. Will Go/Screw Together.

8. NOTE: Some Pentagon or Hexagon Panels Utilizing Deferent Materials for Panel Coverings such as Plexi glass, Lexon, or Other Materials for Doors, Windows, Vents, Skylights, etc. Will Result in a Reduction of the Plywood Requirement.

1. NOTE: Continue to WATERPROOF the Whole E.B. As U Put its Parts Together.

2. You Are Now Ready to Screw the Bottom Three Levels of Your Earth Ball Shell Together, the Struts and then the Sheathing.

3. NOTE: Now is a good time to Paint Brush or Roll on a few Coats of Fiberglass Resin or Other Waterproofing You Choose to Seal Both Sides of the Pentagon and Hexagon Panels and All Struts.

4. NOTE: Again, It's is Best to Fiberglass All Wood Surfaces, Plywood and 2 X 4 Struts at Least TWO Coat of Waterproof Material before Screwing the Struts Together and/or Screwing Panels On to the Struts.

5. NOTE: Again, It's Very Important to SEAL ALL TOP, BOTTOM, EDGES and ENDS of ALL Hex/Pent and Hex/Hex Panels and All Your 2 X 4s.

1. As the 90 Strut Frame is Structurally Unstable Without the Sheathing Installed.

1a.To START... the Earth Ball Should Only Be Framed Up to the Third Level.

2. The Three Level are Made Up of (1) the Bottom Pentagon, (2) A Full Row of 5 Full Hexagons, (3) A Full Row of 5 Pentagons and (4) A Row of Five 1/2 Hexagons Bottoms Will Appear.

3. Above the Bottom Pentagon, the First Row of Hexagons AND In the Middle of the Next Row of 5 Pentagons, Is (About) Where Your WATERLINE WILL BE Once You Load ALL Your STUFF including Water, Batteries, Food, 12 Volt Power Supply, Outboards, etc.

3a. Waterproofing the Bottom Pentagon, Up Through the Next Row of Hexagons and through the Next Row of PENTAGON and the 1/2 Hexagon Panels Is Where the Heavy Fiberglass Epoxy or other Very Strong, Watertight, Waterproofing Should Be Applied.

4. NOTE: Most of the Dead or Live Loads Will Be Bearing On the Bottom 4 Rows of Pentagons and Hexagons of Your Earth Ball.

4a. (3) Three Layers of Fiberglass Cloth and Fiberglass Epoxy Resin Will Make Your Earth Ball Home, Very, Very Strong. We Know From Experience. The E.B. Will Sit Easy On the Bottom Pentagon When the Tide Goes Out. This makes Your E.B. Easy To Ck-Out, Maintain, Clean, Scrape Off Growths, (Most Anytime), Off Your E.Bs. Bottom, etc.

4b. NOTE: You Will be able to Adjust Your Water Level Line ( A little ) Once You Add Pontoons, Floats etc. The amount You can adjust the Water Level depends on the size of the Pontoons, Floats, Weight and Position, the Location of Batteries, Rain-Water Storage, etc. inside the E.B.

4c. You Want Your E.B. to be Heavy on the Bottom, by quite a lot, Thus Ballast. You will see and feel the Weight Needed Once You Are A-Float. It would take a lot of Wind / People to turn My E.B. Upside Down. And even if it did Roll Over, not much would get broken, cracked, or destroyed if Your Stuff is Stowed / Tied Down Well.

Screwing the Bottom 3 Levels Together

1. To Start, Screw All Three Levels of Struts Together.

2. NOTE: Place A (approximately). 56 inch (Cut To Fit) 2 X 4 Through the Mid Section of ALL 5 of the Five (1/2) HALF Hexagons.

3. About Now You Are Ready to Get Your Friends and Flip the Earth Ball, Three Row Frame, Upside Down.

4. The Bottom Will Now be Facing Up Making it Easier to Finish Screwing on the Sheathing and Finish Waterproofing.

6. It is advisable to Use 3/4 inch Treated/Waterproofed Sheathing/Plywood for the Bottom Pentagon, the Bottom Row Of 5 Hexagons, the Next Row Of 5 Pentagons and the Row Of (5) 1/2 Hexagon Panels.

5. The First Three Levels of Hexagon and Pentagon Sheathing (Including the Bottom Pentagon) Can Now Be Screwed On.

6. Use ( 2 or 2 1/2 ) inch, Galvanized and/or Outdoor Deck Screws, Every 3 Inches Or So.

6a. Glue (We Used Liquid Nail) Can Also Be Used for A Stronger Bond.

1. Now it is time to Paint Brush on a few MORE Coats of Fiberglass Resin or Other Waterproofing You Choose to Seal Both the Inside and Outside of the Pentagon and Hexagon Panels, BOTTOM, Including the Struts.

1a. Repeat NOTE: It's is Best to Fiberglass All Wood Surfaces, Plywood and 2 X 4 Struts at Least TWO Coat before Screwing the Struts Together or Screwing Panels On to the Struts.

1b. Repeat NOTE: It's Very Important, Seal ALL EDGES and ENDS of ALL the Hex/Hex and Hex/Pent Panels and All End Cuts of Your 2 X 4s.

2. Completely Waterproofing Your E.B. Bottom (All Three Sections Plus the Bottom Pentagon) is the Next Step.

3. I Used (3) Three Layers/Coats of Fiberglass Medium Weave Cloth to Cover the Bottom of My Earth Ball, The more layers of Fiberglass Cloth You Put On, the Stronger Your E.B. Bottom Will Be. Read Up on Applying Fiber-glass on wood/Ideas etc. We Used West Marine Epoxy Fiberglass System, There Are Others.

4. Again On My Earth Ball I Used Three Layers of Medium Mesh, Fiberglass Cloth. Its Very, Very Strong and Water Tight, No Leaks At All One Year Later. We Expect It To Stay Waterproof for Many, Many Years.

4a. My E.B. Will Sit On Its Fiber Glassed Bottom Completely Out of the Water, Loaded with Stuff, Water, Engines, People and All. See Picture.

NOTE: Earth Ball - Foot Print Indentation in Mud On Left

4b. Thus, This Solid Foundation, the Bottom of Your E.B. (Boat/House/Greenhouse) Will Keep it Floating and Very Strong in Storm/Emergency Times of Floods, Earth Quakes and/or When Your Earth Ball Home and/or Greenhouse Is Used As A Live Aboard E.B. House Boat.

4c. NOTE: E.Bs. On Land. The Fiberglass or Other Material Coating the Bottom and Lower Sides of Your E.B. (Will Also Be Your E.B. Homes Foundation and Will Keep Rot From Starting, the Bugs and the Critters, Including Fish Out).
